The word template is buzzing through the air! Everyone seems to want a template for their Canva projects. Well why not! The process in creating a blog title image can be rather tedious for every blog post. Some people have told me they take longer on the image than their actual blog post. How inefficient is that?! Mulling over something you’re not really crazy about – Should I use this photo? Should I use a color background? Should I use a filter? Lots of details to think about with just 1 blog title image.

Hmm… it has to be easier for bloggers to create a blog title image. Right?! Yes, that’s why the word template is on the tip of every blogger or entrepreneur’s tongue.

First there are some major steps to clear the way into getting a template done in Canva. Here’s a post, Creating a Blog Title Image Using Canva with 6 Easy Steps, which will lay down the branding steps you need to achieve in order to start a template. That’s pretty much the hardest part in creating your own designs. Once you have your branding style guide for your business, then it’s smooth sailing into templates.

Create a Blog Title Image Template in Canva (Free & Canva for Work Version Steps)

Log into Canva and find the blog title image design that you’d like to use.

 

Depending on your preference to a landscape or portrait version, you might have to click on the More button to find the blog graphic dimensions you need.

 

Choose one that will be best for the social media platforms you are on most. For example, if you’re on Twitter or Facebook most then you would use the Blog Title design image. If most of your audience is on Google+ and Pinterest, then use the portrait layout of the Blog Graphic design image.

Click on the design image that’s best for you and your audience.

Once you have branding colors and fonts, at this point you’ll need to decide if you would like a photo or color background. Whichever you choose, you’ll have to stick with it through the rest of the blog posts so you’ll want to make sure you feel confident and comfortable with the background. All blog posts will have a consistent look and that’s how you’ll get noticed in the social feed.

Check out this example:

A fictitious company called Baby Doe, which sells baby clothing and other baby items. They start a blog related on: baby clothing, accessories, tips for parents, etc. They have a Pinterest account and would like to sell items through social media. They want their blog title images to be consistent and noticeable in the Pinterest feed.

Since they will use Pinterest, they should choose the Blog Graphic design image in Canva.

Choose a layout that inspires you and has elements (color, shape, illustrations, etc.) that you can use on a consistent basis. I used the doe in the corner as the logo (again this is a fictitious business, you shouldn’t use any of the designs in Canva as a logo) and removed the rest of the animals. The box will be the constant in the design template where the title will be placed with the branded fonts along with the orange background.

Above the box, an illustration or icon can be picked dependent on the theme of the post. This blog post title is,”How to Design a Fabulous Baby Shower”, all branded fonts have been used and the illustration from the Elements tab in Canva was used (colors matching the brand). These were all free items to create this design. This is now the blog title image template. You can download it as a .png or .jpg and upload to your website.

When the next blog post is ready, go back to Canva, click on the design found at the bottom section when you login (this step is for the free version of Canva). A Canva for Work tip on templates will be listed after the demo below.*

Once it opens, click on the copy icon (looks like 2 papers on top of each other) on the right-side of the design. It will then provide a copy below to work with.

Take a look at the above demo, this is to show how easy it is to copy the original graphic and remove elements that are no longer needed. Change the title and there’s no worry in finding the correct font as it’s already in there. Keep the box for the title and remove the illustration on the top to relate it to the new blog post title. This one was, “What Not To Give As A Baby Shower Gift” also included that there is free checklist. Found an illustration by going to the Elements tab on the left to find images that would not be a good gift for a baby shower gift – a puppy and a basket. This was a quick and easy example. The color background, the orange outline box, the fonts, the logo, and website URL will all stay the same. It’s that quick and easy!

Of course there other options as far as filters and photos but if you’re just getting started this would be the easiest and fastest way to get it done.

*Canva for Work tip: After creating your template, go to the top right by Download and click on the toggle that says Show Team. A dropdown menu will pop up and click on Publish as template. Be sure to click on Save Changes. Now when you log back into Canva, the template will be in the Templates section under Your Brand.

For Canva for Work, complete the Brand Kit that way your colors and fonts will be ready at your fingertips when designing.

For free version and Canva for Work users, when you’ve reached the 30 image limit then click on File on the top left and click on Make a copy. This will copy all 30 images into a new tab. Rename it if you want and continue creating the blog title image from the beginning.
